Audition Schedule & Info
The Audition Format at ACT
ACT auditions generally consist of cold readings. Copies of
scenes will be provided you will be placed in groups by the director.
You will be asked to read as many times as the director feels is
necessary. Don't worry if someone reads more than you, or if you do not read for the role that you
want. Sometimes a director does not need to see you read a lot to know if you are right for a role.
If you are auditioning for a musical, please bring sheet music. An accompanist
will be provided. If you have an accompanist you work with regularly, it is ok to bring him or her. If you sing
accapella, you will also be asked to sing some scales with the accompanist. We need to see how well you can
match pitch, you may sound great on your own, but you also need to sound great with others.
If you are auditioning for a musical, know your song well. Just as it is
important to have an understanding of a script, it is important to understand the meaning behind a song. Always
have your song memorized.
Actors are released from auditions in stages to keep people from waiting
around when the director knows they will not be asked to read again. If you are asked to leave early, it does not
mean you will not be cast, simply that the director has seen what they need to cast you.
If you feel too nervous to audition, the easiest and least threatening
way to join us is by being on the technical crew, for example, as backstage crew, costumer, propmaster, set builder, etc..
If you don't have any experience in your assigned area but you're willing to learn, then we'll soon find someone
to show you the ropes. You will quickly get to know everybody through the comraderie that surrounds the production and when
the next play comes around you will have a clearer insight into what is needed during the selection process.
Enthusiasm is what we want to see and if you can supply that in abundance, then
you're quickly going to become a valued part of Angelo Civic Theatre.
